ABOUT ADD/ADHD
WHAT IS ADD/ADHD?
Attention-Defecit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), also called Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) is a condition affecting children and adults that is characterized by problems with attention, impulsivity, and overactivty. It affects a significant number of school age children and adults. ADHD is a neurological disorder that affects individuals across their lifespan.
SYMPTOMS
Core symptoms include developmentally inappropriate levels of attention, concentration, activity, distractibility, and impulsivity. Children with ADHD usually have excessive difficulty in multiple settings including home, school, and peer relationships. Adults often experience high levels of anxiety, have difficulty maintaining focus, suffer with disorganization, forgetfulness, and discomfort in social settings.

OUR APPROACH TO TREATMENT
NEW AND UNIQUE TREATEMENT
Our approach is comprehensive. Initially, we complete both a clinical interview and an agnostic assessment tool. This assessment is used to develop an overall personalized treatment plan and to determine if any other psychoeducational tests are needed. We use the Brown’s ADD Assessment Tool which is one of the most comprehensive diagnostic tools available. It includes a screening for other disorders that often get confused or overlap with ADD/ADHD. The following is a summary of the process and the treatment options.

Neurofeedback
Neurofeedback is a sophisticated form of biofeedback that helps train the brain to become more efficient and effective. It is often used as a successful treatment option for ADD/ADHD and many other comorbid disorders such as anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder. It also helps with sleep regulation, chronic pain and many learning disabilities. In the case of ADHD symptoms of impulsivity, distractibility, and hyperactivity may all respond to this training. Students who complete neurotherapy often experience enhanced school performance. In several studies, increases of 10 points in IQ score were found for a representative group of ADHD children. In addition many clinicians report successful treatment of people with ADHD to the extent that more than 80% of them are able to reduce or eliminate stimulant medication.
