How does EEG Neurofeedback treat ADD/ADHD? Click Here

Houston /Katy Neurofeedback Treatment

Katy Neurofeedback Treatment uses EEG (Electroencephalogram) to train the brain to help improve its ability to regulate all bodily functions and to take care of itself. A better functioning brain can improve sleep patterns.

When you sleep more efficiently, you are more alert during the day. It can help with numerous other problems.

Some of the most common problems being treated with Katy Neurofeedback Treatment are:

  • ADD/ADHD
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • PTSD
  • Autism
  • Peak Performance
  • Anger and Rage
  • Panic Attacks
  • Conduct Disorder
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Sleep Disregulation
  • Migraines
  • Chronic Pain

People with many anxiety disorders, for example have difficulty self-regulating and are generally over-aroused. The same is true for people with tension headaches.

People with ADHD are generally under-aroused. When neurofeedback is used to treat ADD/ADHD, dramatic improvements are frequently seen in academic performance as well as many of the other symptoms that manifest as a result of low frequency brainwave activity (under-arousal).

Irritability, aggression, sleep dysfunctions and anxiety may all improve as a result of neurofeedback treatment.

How is Katy Neurofeedback Treatment done?

EEG biofeedback training is a painless, non-invasive procedure. A special EEG monitor (amplifier) and software is set up with a computer. Electrodes (sensors) are placed on the scalp to record the client's brainwave activity. As certain frequencies increase or decrease, the client gets increased or decreased feedback, including auditory, visual and tactile feedback. Gradually, the brain responds to the cues that it is being given, and a "learning" of new brain wave patterns takes place. The new pattern is one which is closer to what is normally observed in individuals without such disabilities.

Katy Neurofeedback Treatment is not a treatment that "fixes" these problems. All of these problems are in part related to some type of brain disregulation, so as the training helps improve brain regulation, it also helps reduce the related symptoms.

How does the Katy Neurofeedback Treatment process work?

First, the clinician completes a comprehensive assessment of reported symptoms possibly combined with standardized or psychological testing. Brain scans such as EEG, SPECT or PET scans can be used, but are typically not necessary for treatment.

Once the initial assessment is complete, the clinician identifies the most appropriate training protocol and inputs the plan into the computer for that client.

Most symptoms are the result of either overaroused areas of the brain or underaroused areas of the brain. A training protocol is then designed to help the client to be better able to "wake up" or "calm" and stabilize those areas of the brain and to be better able to self regulate those functions in daily living. To be effective, the client needs to train at least twice a week for 20-40 sessions depending on the problem symptoms.

Before each session the client reports progress on symptoms. Modifications to the training protocol are made by the clinician as needed. Once symptoms are alleviated, the number of sessions are gradually reduced as long as the client reports continued improvements. Quarterly and annual visits are necessary in the first year to ensure symptoms have dissipated.

What are the Katy Neurofeedback Treatment results?

In the case of ADHD, symptoms of impulsivity, distractibility, and hyperactivity may all respond to this training. This may lead to much more successful school performance. In several studies, increases of 10 points in IQ score were found for a representative group of ADHD children.

In addition many clinicians report successful treatment of people with ADHD to the extent that more than 80% of them are able to reduce or eliminate stimulant medication. Because EEG biofeedback treats underarousal or overarousal of the brain, it achieves better, more comprehensive results.

In the case of depression, there can be a gradual recovery of mood, or affect and a reduction in fatigue. In the case of anxiety and panic attacks, there is gradual improvement in symptoms, with a drop-off in frequency and severity of anxiety episodes and panic attacks until the condition normalizes.
