Play Therapy

Play therapy has been demonstrated to be an effective treatment approach for a variety of children’s problems which have an emotional basis including depression, anxiety, anger control, educational difficulties, and traumas.

At Stone Creek, we have play therapists that work with both children and their families. They also utilize the wealth of experience of the other clinicians on staff. The play therapists work with children from the ages of 4 years old to 10 years old and use a client-centered, non-directive approach in their treatment.

Client-centered play therapy aims to resolve the imbalance between the child and his/her environment so as to facilitate natural, self improving growth. The therapist does not attempt to direct the child’s actions or conversations in any manner.

The therapist recognizes the feelings the child is expressing and reflects those feelings back in way that the child gains insight into his/her behaviors.

During play therapy sessions, children express themselves with confidence of acceptance and understanding; they can then engage in creative play and share original, uninhibited thoughts. Through this process and in the safe environment of the play therapy room, the therapist is able to work through underlying emotional issues.
